PROJECT 1
Project 1: Ephemeral, Site, and Social Space
The artistic works of Andy Goldsworthy were created with materials that were apart of the environment. To create my work for project 1, I followed the mindset of Goldsworthy and used materials in my immediate environment. The environment was the back patio of at my home. The materials were rocks from a space that is filled with rocks along a long wall and small branches from a plant. I knew I wanted to use the rocks, but didn’t know what I wanted to build. I decided to create a small bridge. My inspiration to create a bridge came from a song my mom was listening to and that I’ve heard her listen to before. The title of the song is “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”. The words of the song are very inspiring and encouraging. There are many versions of the song, and I chose to use the version performed by Cynthia Erivo to play on the video that shows the process of me creating the bridge. It was not my intention to make a personal connection to this art project, but after listening to the song I was inspired to create a bridge as a symbol of getting through the difficult times in life.
Hi Jonathan, I find it interesting that while you were thinking and creating this project, you were able to tie in a personal element and experience. I think that this highlights a more abstract and unique element to your piece. I think that it would be interesting to document making the bridge at different heights. For example, making the bridge at a short, then medium, then large height to represent the degree at which difficult times can affect us.
ReplyDeleteHello Jonathan! I really find it interesting how you made it more about a song and your own experiences, but still creating something from nature rather than adding an element or object. I also really enjoyed you taking pictures of the different sides of the sculpture you made to really show the dimensions and what it looked like to you. I also think showing the process of building it, most likely while listening to the song, was very interesting to see.
ReplyDeleteHello Jonathan,
ReplyDeleteI like this post and your personal connection within it, I think it could've been really interesting to put this in a spot where you couldn't tell how large the scale of this bridge was. I think that could've made it so we could create something within our own minds. Overall I think you did a great job writing and the meaning was so amazing.
